AC vs Cooler
Hey guys, today we'll be discussing that whether you should choose AC over air cooler or air cooler over AC. Before starting with the comparison we should know the basic points of differences between the two of them.
Air cooler, as the name itself suggests that it just cools the air by passing it through cool padding(thus increasing the humidity). Air is cooled by making it more humid ,and hence it can only cool the air a few degrees below the ambient temperature, also it can only be well used in places of dry air, or rather where moisture content is less. In places of high humidity coolers won't be of great use.
Air conditioners(AC) can produce both cooling and heating effect in a room(which is the primary difference between both). Moreover an AC can control the humidity(which gives more comfort), or it can "CONDITION" the air ,hence the name. In many places it is observed that the AC is leaking, this water is a result of dehumidifying process. So AC can be used irrespective of whether a place is dry or humid. Also they can bring temperature much below the ambient temperature.]
Why you should choose an Air cooler:
- Air Quality: An air conditioner circulates the internal air of the room over and over again, on the other hand, an air cooler pulls fresh air from outside atmosphere and cools it down. Also, air cooler doesn’t make the air overly dry(dehumidify the air) like an air conditioner. Because of the way it operates, an air cooler offers better quality of air for your room.
- Carbon Footprint: Now this has been a topic of debate for over years now. We as responsible human are always concerned for 'Going Green'. Air conditioners use CFC (Chlorofluorocarbon) and HFC (hydro-chlorofluorocarbons) as their refrigerant(or rather coolant), which is harmful to the environment. On the other hand, air coolers are respectively more Eco-friendlier, since they use water as the coolant.
- Economic Factor: We all are aware of the high cost of AC with respect to that of an air cooler. When it comes to value for money, an air cooler definitely scores high over an AC. Even though both end up cooling the room, an AC can cost anything upto ₹30,000 to ₹60,000, whereas a cooler will be available from ₹5000 to ₹15,000. Also, apart from the initial cost of purchasing, even the operating cost of an air cooler is less than an AC. You can expect 80% less electricity bill from a cooler as compared to an AC, making it economical in the long run.
Why you should choose an AC:
- Less Ventilation: An AC can compensate for the lack of airflow if your room is stuffed with things all over and closed. AC can act as dehumidifiers and improve airflow within the room. In hot places like Delhi, this is literally a blessing in disguise!
- Health issues & allergies: In the last few years, airborne diseases and allergies have been on the rise; more people are becoming increasingly sensitive to airborne triggers every day. To make things worse, the fluctuating day-night temperature brings no relief from the scorching weather. Having an AC would not only cool your room & keep you calm but keep you healthy in the long run as well.
- High-rise buildings: In cities like Delhi and Hyderabad, having an flat on the top floor is probably a nightmare(Is day-mare a word- Tell me in the comments if anyone know about it :-). Apartments on the higher floors generally tend to heat up and trap heat all day, literally creating a furnace in the room. An AC would be just the thing to have in this seasonal heat wave. You can set the temperature that suits you and shut out the dust-filled dry outdoors.
I've made a comparison table for you guys,
Comparison Table:
S No. | Feature | Air Cooler | AC |
---|---|---|---|
1. | Price | ₹5000-₹15000 | ₹25000-₹60000 |
2. | Fresh Air | Yes | NO |
3. | Installation Requirements | Not required | You can't install it yourself |
4. | Eco-Friendly | Yes | Nope |
4. | In humid areas | Do not work well | Works perfectly fine |
5. | Daily Maintenance | You'll need to fill water regularly | Mot required |
Guys till now we have discussed all the points of differences and where one of them beats the other in one or the other aspect. Now, it's up-to you whether to choose an AC or an air cooler. Don't forget to consider the humidity stats, region, ventilation, area, economic factor.
#My Tip: If you’re not ready to commit to an AC full time and need it just till the monsoons arrive, renting an AC is what you want. AC rentals only cost a fraction of the buying price when compared to the EMI(Equated Monthly Installments) you’ll pay to actually buy one, trust me on this guys.
That's it for today guys, don't forget to share it with your friends and family.
